How Often to Check Leads
Consistency beats intensity. Here's a realistic schedule.
Minimum Viable Checking
Once a day: Check your email digest in the morning. Reply to hot leads (7+) immediately.
This takes ~15 minutes and catches the most important opportunities.
If you can only do one thing, do this.
Optimal Schedule
For best results without burning out:
Morning (9am)
- Check overnight leads
- Reply to hot leads on fresh threads
- Clear your "New" queue
- ~15-20 minutes
Afternoon (2pm)
- Quick scan for anything new
- Focus on Reddit and HN (faster-moving platforms)
- ~10 minutes
Evening (8pm)
- Optional check for late-day posts
- Good for catching West Coast (US) activity
- ~5-10 minutes
Total: ~30-40 minutes per day, spread across 2-3 sessions.
For Maximum Results
If lead generation is a top priority:
Check 3-4 times per day in short bursts (5-10 minutes each).
Schedule
- 8am: Morning scan
- 12pm: Midday check
- 4pm: Afternoon sweep
- 9pm: Evening review
Focus
Every session, focus on the "Hot" tab first. These are your highest-priority leads.
Only dive into medium-intent leads after handling all hot ones.
What Not to Do
Don't Check Every 15 Minutes
This is a waste of time. Leads don't appear that fast. You'll burn out.
Don't Skip 3+ Days
Leads go stale. If you wait too long:
- Threads are dead
- Someone else replied first
- The opportunity passed
Check at least once per day.
Don't Reply to Week-Old Threads
Posts older than 48 hours rarely get engagement. Skip them and focus on fresh leads.
Don't Spend Hours in the App
StackLead should save you time, not consume it. Quick, focused sessions beat marathon scrolling.
Building the Habit
Use Email Digests
Enable daily digests. Your morning email becomes your trigger to check leads.
Set Calendar Reminders
Block 15 minutes at the same time each day. Treat it like a meeting.
Batch Your Replies
Don't context-switch. Open StackLead, handle all leads, close StackLead. One focused session.
Track Your Results
Notice which times of day generate the best leads. Adjust your schedule accordingly.
Time Zone Considerations
If Your Audience is US-Based
- Morning (your time) catches overnight US activity
- Afternoon catches US morning posts
- Evening catches US afternoon posts
If Your Audience is Global
- Spread checks throughout the day
- No single "best" time
Adjust Based on Platform
- Reddit: Most active US evenings and weekends
- HN: Most active US business hours
- Twitter: Constant activity
- Indie Hackers: Varies
Recommended Setup
| User Type | Digest | Check Frequency | Time Per Day | |-----------|--------|-----------------|--------------| | Casual | Daily | Once/day | 15 min | | Active | Daily | 2-3x/day | 30 min | | Power | Real-time alerts + Daily | 3-4x/day | 45 min |
Choose based on how important lead generation is to your current goals.
The Bottom Line
The best schedule is the one you'll actually stick to.
Start with once per day. If you see results and want more, add sessions.
Consistency > intensity.
